Lydney Training Band & CLiC Sargent Fundraising Charity Concert

Samantha Ford becomes Concert Organiser for the Lydney Training Band to host a fundraising charity concert with guest euphonium soloist Thomas Dunne to celebrate young lives. ​

​The Lydney Training Band is hosting a fundraising charity concert on Saturday 21st April 2018, 6.30-9pm, at the Lydney Town Hall. The concert will showcase the Lydney Training Band and Lydney Starter Band with guest euphonium soloist Thomas Dunne MMus BMus (Hons).
 
Concert Organiser, Samantha Ford, is solo horn and lifetime member of the Lydney Town Band. She is currently studying a Master's in English Language at the University of Birmingham and has been invited to present at her first international conference in Hong Kong about her postgraduate research for 'Researching and Applying Metaphor' (RaAM). The concert will help raise money for her trip to Hong Kong and also contribute to the CLiC Sargent charity Cancer and Leukaemia in Children to help improve young lives with cancer.

The concert will showcase the success of the Lydney Band's training and youth development programme, bringing the talent of the Lydney Training Band and the Lydney Starter Band to the stage. Both bands combined consist of over 44 youth and adult members mainly local to Lydney, the Forest of Dean. The Lydney Starter Band will perform a selection of well known tunes including Marching Saints and Shaker Song (Lord of the Dance), and the Lydney Training Band will play music including Punchinellie, Everybody Needs Somebody, and Yesterday at the concert.

The Lydney Training Band is delighted to announce that their guest soloist, Thomas Dunne, who will perform a musical selection for euphonium at the concert including Concert Gallop, Salut D'Amour, and Napoli.

Thomas Dunne graduated with a Master’s Degree in Music in July 2017 from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD) under the tuition of renowned international euphonium soloist David Childs.

​Thomas currently plays with Championship Section band Filton Concert Brass and works as a freelance brass tutor with the Cardiff and Vale Music Service (CAVMS Ltd.) and in the surrounding area. He also works as a music journalist, writing for Brass Band World, the leading international brass band magazine, and a Switzerland-based magazine BRASS BAND.

​The concert will prove a great experience for the Lydney Training Band and Lydney Starter Band to perform to an audience in concert, as well as providing an opportunity for local youth and adults to enjoy an evening of live music. Local Gloucestershire schools have been contacted and their pupils encouraged to attend the event as a learning opportunity for school children to help improve their key stage development and music appreciation. 

The Lydney Band believe that brass playing should not only be enjoyed but also provide key skills such as teamwork, multitasking, analytical thinking, and social skills to as many people as possible. The band therefore tutor a large range of youth and adults as part of their training programme, of which members will be seen on stage at the concert. The Lydney Band organisation provides expert tutoring and mentoring through Associated Board Music Examinations (ABRSM) and maintains a 100% pass rate with over 60% achieving the top grade of 'distinction'.
